Welcome to the Music Department

Music at Dyffryn Taf offers a wide range of enjoyable activities that help to develop broader skills such as communication, confidence and self-esteem. Activities and lessons take place in an atmosphere that encourages good relationships and wellbeing.

New Year 7 Curriculum

As part of the new year 7 curriculum pupils will be given the opportunity in music lessons to perform, compose and appraise a wide range of music that develops their musical skills and ability. Pupils will focus on skills, creativity and collaboration within the expressive arts. There will be a strong focus on African Music where pupils will develop keyboard, vocal and drumming skills which will be developed through cross curricular projects across other areas of learning. We aim to encourage our pupils to broaden their learning experiences and become creative, ambitious and capable learners who are proud of their achievements.

All pupils have the opportunity to develop their performing, composing and appraising skills through a curriculum that is essentially practical. Pupils are encouraged in creative tasks and also to make progress when playing the keyboard or an instrument of their choice.
