Welcome to the Design & Technology Department

The Design & Technology Department offers a wide range of design and make tasks across different focus areas. A range of materials and components are used to complete design and make tasks. These include fabrics, computer software, wood, acrylic and ingredients.


Key Stage 3

New Year 7 Curriculum

As part of the new year 7 Technology curriculum pupils are given the opportunity to explore and experience a wide range of activities that develop their Technological, Creative and Scientific knowledge. The projects provide transferable thinking and problem solving skills as well as relevant numeracy tasks. Pupils will develop a range of practical skills (in the medium of wood, acrylic, food and textiles) which will be enhanced through our cross curricular projects. We aim to provide our pupils with the opportunity to broaden their learning experiences and become creative, ambitious and sustainable designers who are always proud of their successes.


Students carry out design and make tasks in the following focus areas:

  • Textiles

  • Product Design

  • Lego Mindstorms - Computer control

  • Food Technology

They work in groups of approximately 20 students and rotate through the focus areas every 12 weeks

Extra Curricular

A number of STEM and EESW activities take place throughout the academic Year

Industrial visits (mainly with 6th Form students)

Entry to the Rotary Young Chef Competition.
