Update 15/05/20

Yr 11/12 EtonX - Summer Term 2020 Distance Learning

Introduction

As part of your lockdown distance learning at Dyffryn Taf, we have secured Yr11 and Yr12 access to EtonX. This on an online learning platform with courses delivered by Eton College, Windsor. The courses we have chosen can be seen as additional work to that set by your subject teachers. They have been specially chosen as bridging courses to help you prepare for Yr12 and Yr13. Although completion is not essential as an entry requirement into Yr12 and Yr13, they can be seen as very useful and important steps towards independent learning and progression. Universities and employers are increasingly using these digital platforms for staff training and learning. You may well be asked in the future what you did during lockdown. These courses would be a good example of independent learning.

Please look at your respective Google Classrooms for your registration instruction. You should also receive a Gmail with instructions. IMPORTANT, register using your school GMAIL.

Update 04/05/20

Normally Yr11 students would be about to embark on the greatest number of examinations you ever sit in education. After exams, you would have a well earned break from studying, before progressing into employment, college or Sixth Form. However, we are in unprecedented times.

Many of you have been contacting me and school regarding progression plans. Please continue to contact me via Gmail or Angharad Williams (angharad.williams@careerswales.com) for advice and support.

To help you bridge the time between GCSE’s and A level please refer to the following document:

These are not a requirement for starting A levels but offer some useful experiences to help you prepare for future learning. Employers and universities are increasingly looking for people that can learn independently. Any of the learning experiences would therefore be very useful to your future. In addition, have a look at the resources in the Welsh Government distance learning link: https://hwb.gov.wales/distance-learning/resources/

Some of you have been looking to make applications to Dyffryn Taf Sixth Form or change your current application. Curriculum option blocks for September 2020 have now been revised and finalised to reflect the best combinations. Some of you may wish to, or have to, make changes from the draft blocks published in December. You can do this via the online application form on the school website.

Some subjects may have very small classes which can be moved to fit better. If you still have a clash then let us know and we will see what we can do. Please rest assured that we’ll be as flexible as possible with Sixth Form entry this year given what you are all going through
